We’re looking for a
We are a small evangelical church (8 members, 8 young people) located in St. Ives, Cornwall. Yet we have a big ambition to see the Lord work powerfully in and through us.
Our local Peninsula Gospel Partnership has the vision of seeing: a Christ-centered, Bible-teaching, people-loving church available to every community in Devon and Cornwall. To play our part in that we are looking to the Lord to become established – to be a church of 30 people in 3 years time, self-sufficient financially and able to make an impact locally and regionally with the gospel. To support that aim we are looking for a ministry trainee, as follows;
1. Role description
The role, to a certain extent, is adaptable depending on the gifts and abilities of the person. At this stage, however, we expect it to include the following elements;
- Active participation in the life of the church: Sunday services, mid-week meetings, prayer meetings, outreach initiatives.
- Youth work: helping to lead Sunday school, Tuesday Club (5-10s), & Anchored (10-15s).
- Volunteering in our Christian bookshop which is housed adjacent to the church.
- Working with the Sierra Leone Mission.
- Discipling teenagers / visiting church family.
- Seeking to make disciples of local people.
The individual will work as a volunteer and receive training – we expect that Wednesday mornings will be given over to attending a Peninsula Gospel Partnership training course in Truro with other Ministry Trainees and volunteers from around the county.
There is the possibility of free accommodation in a church member’s house for the academic year.
The position is expected to be September 2020 through to June 2021 (10 months), though this may be extendable, especially if the person has an interest in serving with United Beach Missions, and if suitable accommodation is available.
At this stage a grant is available to support living expenses and travel costs. Further details can be discussed later on the application process. Any additional support required will need to be raised by the Trainee, and/or be provided by their sending church.
6. The person
An occupational requirement of the role is that the person will need to be an evangelical Christian in agreement with our statement of faith (see here). They will also need to be able to take the initiative in forming friendships, joining local groups, and investing in the local community to make their best use of their time. They should also have the whole-hearted support of their local church.
If you are interested in the role and would like to talk further, then please do get in touch with the Pastor, Tim Dennick at firstname.lastname@example.org or 01736 448 545.
